This year the 5th grade students will complete real world, team challenges that incorporate the principles of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). They will envision and design new technology of the future through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology. They will develop a marketing plan to showcase their original inventions, including creating their own digital advertisements and websites.
Students will learn important leadership skills and participate in debates and Socratic seminars on various topics designed to foster and develop these skills.
Finally, the students will explore the world of forensic science using scientific inquiry skills, data collection, analysis, and interpretation of evidence. Throughout these units of study, the students will benefit from working with other highly motivated peers who share their academic interests. They will also be able to share their elaborate, original thinking and learn from each other.
Students are expected to consistently perform at the highest standards by demonstrating proficiency in all of their subject areas and completing all of the required assignments in their homeschool, as well as in the GT classroom.
